The Quote

Ridicule is the language of the devil.
Thomas Carlyle (Added: January 7, 2005)

The Lesson

It is not difficult to find a reason to make fun of a person, thing or idea. It is an easy task; at the same time, it is demoralizing. The more times one is ridiculed, the harder it is to bring new ideas to the table. So it is that this becomes the language of the devil.

What better tool for the devil than ridicule which hides beneath the veneer of laughter a devastating blow for the one who is ridiculed?

Not all laughter is ridicule but all laughter which has ridicule as its source is evil.
